Anesthesiologist Job Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited college of medicine
  • Completion of an ACGME-approved residency in Anesthesiology
  • Board Certification or Fellowship in Anesthesiology required
  • Current, unrestricted physician license (Virginia license required for this locum tenens assignment)
  • ECFMG and FLEX (if applicable) for international medical graduates
  • Minimum 1 year of post-residency experience as an anesthesiologist; prior locum or hospital-based experience a plus
  • Ability to supervise CRNAs (typical supervision ratio 1:4) and manage independent cases
  • Comfortable working night float shifts and available for overtime as needed

Key Responsibilities – Anesthesiology Duties

  • Provide general anesthesia care across a broad case mix including General, OB, Neuro, and Orthopedic procedures
  • Conduct pre-anesthesia evaluations, obtain/verify consent, and discuss anesthetic plans and risks with patients and families
  • Perform induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia; monitor physiologic status and intervene appropriately
  • Manage perioperative medical care and collaborate with surgical, nursing, and perioperative teams
  • Supervise and mentor CRNAs, ensuring quality and safety in anesthesia delivery
  • Assist in directing and coordinating activities within the Anesthesia Department as needed
  • Document care accurately in Epic EMR and maintain compliance with hospital policies and quality standards
